Interesting. GM will release a GMC Hummer EV Pickup truck. Initial specs hint at a least 1000 HP and zero to 60 in the three seconds range.
It makes sense GM wants to capitalize on the Hummer brand name again with Jeep selling like hotcakes and the upcoming Bronco as examples. The tough, off-road image is in nowadays! It is funny how Hummer will go from terrible gas guzzling machines to an all-electric GMC sub-brand..but I guess that’s the world we live in.

Electric hummer sounds like the name of a sex toy

ZERO LIMITS (unless you want to go somewhere without electricity)

I can go to a dealership and talk in the back offices, make a deal, and get a Hummer?
Huh...

I’m at work or I would google it but I’m about 90% sure that is ACTUALLY a sex toy.

0-60 in 3 seconds (not on mud terrains...)

Depends on how desperate the salesperson is to close the deal.

I like this. Outside of the military, most Hummers were used as status symbols, so I don’t think the EV/Range thing will be an issue.
This is a way better idea than that folded cardboard Musk-a- truck.
Reminds me of this:

It’s an interesting direction to take the brand... Sorta like a wacky re-boot of a famous comedy known for frat-boy humour with an all-female cast... What could go wrong?

1,000 hp? Makes sense. Instead of guzzling gas, it will guzzle electricity. And because a huge, 1,000 hp, almost certainly super heavy, lightning-fast- accelerating battering ram is exactly what the roads need more of...
This is going to be the most terrifying vehicle in the world...

You would be correct. Only comes in pink though...

Lots of roof space for solar panels! /s
Since it will already be pretty heavy, maybe not a bad idea for a PHEV with generator/drive engine.

I guess that 0.1% of Hummer buyers that actually used them outside the city/suburbs will need to look elsewhere

..and if you want to use it like a truck and tow it will get terrible range!! Woo, Zero Limit baby!

Speaking of which, I still owe you guys a post on The Wonders of Quadrasteer, the best truck technology of the last 25 years— completely screwed up by Terrible GM Marketing.
so. yeah. You think this Hummer is going to sit on the lot right next to the Sierra 2500 Duramax and get the appropriate love? Especially as those same dealers completely screwed the pooch already on the ELR... which actually WAS a thing.

Please do, would love to read that. My Uncle is a GM Corporate lifer and I vaguely remember him bringing a Sierra Denali Quadrasteer to my Grandfathers funeral in 2001. Super cool technology back in the day!

Oh yeah, that too. A nd with 11,500 torques... I hope it’s insanely expensive, because the thought of seeing these things on the road in large quantities is... I just, like, can’t even with this truck.

Obligatory, every time a Hummer comes up:
A friend rented one when they first came out, on Maui. We took it off-roading and it was a ton of fun. Unless you work for Hertz, in which case, we stayed only on approved paved roads. We have no idea how the underside got dented or how it got covered in mud.
You can see the guy in the wrangler (a stranger) taking a picture of an H2 off-roading. It was quite a sight back then, when most people on the island hadn’t even seen one in person yet.

That’s awesome. It looks so massive there, but that had to be a blast. Funny, there’s a resort in my area that made a Hummer exclusive off-road course back in the day featuring H1/H2's. You could rent or pay for rides in them. Always thought it was cool.

Quadrasteer was cool concept I loved how it worked the back end when trying to park in a tight parking lot. It was so weird but worked very well.
What didn’t work? It was very expensive. And the increased unsprung mass contributed to an awful ride if the pavement was less than butter smooth.
Others have since implemented rear steer successfully before and since. Nobody else has attempted to d o a solid axle body on frame vehicle.
It’s still a marvel and a shame that the concept was killed before they put the effort in to refining the application
But that’s also very much GM.

That is cool, but I also kind of roll my eyes at courses designed exactly for one vehicle. Then you don’t get to wonder, “am I going to make this?” Which I think is part of the fun. On the other hand, you can kind of go nuts, which is fun too.
I took my beaten-to-death XJ cherokee on that same trail (above) a few months later. It made it but the Hummer did it better. The wrangler that was with us, though, did it even better, because it could pick its way through where the H2 had to go over, or back up to make a 3-point turn out of an easy corner for the wrangler.

interestingly they still have a branded bike
